This event was organised as part of the Capital of Culture celebrations in 2008. The winners promoted Geography in the worlshops and strands there.
In all, 12 young academics, postgraduate students and young professionals and leaders wrote winning essays on one of the Big Hope themes
Their essays have been compiled and edited into a special HERODOT publication, "Promoting and Celebrating Geography", edited by Karl Donert and Gelnda Wall. The topics of Education, Faith, Social Change, Citizenship and Responsibility are dealt with in these essays.
This publication was launched at the Big Hope on June 6th when North West England MEP Sajjid Karim, presented certificates to prize winners. The launch was also attended by Lord David Alton and Patrick Kelly, the Archbishop of Liverpool. The book "Promoting and Celebrating Geography" supports the ongoing work of Thematic Pillar 2 in HERODOT, to promote Geography and support the work of geographers.
